LIFE Survivors Network Launch Event

LIFE Survivors Network Launch Event

LIFE Survivors Network Launch Event

On Friday 18th May we launched our new Big Lottery Funded LIFE Survivors Network in partnership with Neath Port Talbot Mind at Market Chambers in Neath for women whose mental health health has been impacted by past experiences of domestic abuse.

The launch event was an opportunity for women living across Neath Port Talbot county borough whose mental health has been affected by past experiences of domestic abuse to come together and meet the new LIFE team and have the opportunity to form friendships and join a survivors network. We held a vintage tea party  with a mindfulness and holisitc therapies taster session. Ladies who had volunteered with our Material Girls project were awarded certificates of recognition for their commitment to volunteering and the vintage tea was provided by PTAWA Enterprises.

Lucy Reynolds, Director of Port Talbot and Afan Women’s Aid, said:

“Being able to provide a form of on-going support to victims of Domestic Abuse, when formal support has come to an end, is absolutely invaluable. We know that when support ends, women are left to cope on their own, often at a time when they are particularly isolated and vulnerable, which makes them more susceptible to returning to unhealthy relationships.

Giving these women the opportunity to access a survivor’s network and to form friendships is like offering a lifeline, empowering them to rebuild their lives and independence.”

Ladies who attended the launch event, said:

“Everyone was so friendly and it was lovely to meet new people. The vintage cakes were amazing and the therapist was so interesting, loved every minute of it. Thanks for letting me be a part of the launch, means the world to me. Looking forward to more events to follow.”

“Really good friendly uplifting atmosphere. Food was lovely, nice meeting girls from Mind and Calan DVS. Very well organised, really looking forward to being part of the life project especially the peer mentoring and the CBT course. The therapist was interesting with the reflexology and advice she was offering.”

“What a fab afternoon with lovely people and lovely food. The music was great, the talks informative and the table decorations fantastic. Everyone was in a good mood, great for the weekend to come. Must do it again.”

“I enjoyed the therapist and the food was lovely. I really love going places with the girls from coffee morning as I don’t go anywhere else. I’m really looking forward to joining in with everything else to come.”

“Lovely afternoon spent with a fabulous bunch of ladies. Food was lovely, a relaxing afternoon and learnt a lot from the lady talking about mindfulness and relaxation. Received a lot of support from this project.”

“Wow what can I say such a calm friendly atmosphere. Lovely to meet others from Mind and food was amazing and presentation was fantastic. Really looking forward to The Life Project going forward.”

“Brilliant day we all enjoyed. The food was fantastic, I felt so spoilt and posh. What a lot of fun and laughter.”
